Guterres in flood affected areas in Pakistan

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres left for Pakistan yesterday on a two-day visit. He visited the flood affected areas of the country yesterday.
Pakistani officials hope Guterres’ visit will boost global support for the humanitarian crisis caused by the floods in the country.

One-third of the country’s territory has been submerged in floods caused by heavy rains during the monsoon season. Government officials say it will cost $10 billion to repair infrastructure damage caused by the flood. Meanwhile, it is impossible for Pakistan, which is in economic distress, to raise this money.

Guterres said in a tweet that he will stand by the people in times of need. He will try to garner international support and highlight the disastrous effects of climate change
