China has warned the US on the Taiwan issue

There is speculation that US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi may visit Taiwan. China has given a strong message about this.

The country warned there would be “dire consequences” if Pelosi visited Taiwan.

China’s foreign ministry spokesman warned that Beijing would “act to retaliate” and “take countermeasures” if Pelosi visits Taiwan.

“We are strongly opposed to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan,” said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson at a regular press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Taiwanese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joan Ou said that Taiwan always welcomes US lawmakers to visit, but the government has not yet received “specific information” about Pelosi’s visit.

There has been a long-standing tension between the US and China over the Taiwan issue. China has been claiming Taiwan as its own territory.

The country has repeatedly hinted that Taiwan will be annexed by force if necessary.🔱
