Leviathan. One of the giant creatures of mythology. In Bengal he can called ‘sea monster’. It said that like the whale and the crocodile, the animal was once seen in the ocean.
China’s new navy compared to that Leviathan. With sophisticated aircraft carriers and hundreds of warships, the Chinese navy has literally become a sea monster!
April 2018. Chinese President Xi Jinping taken part in a military exercise of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) navy in the disputed South China Sea.
Destroyer got on the warship after wearing military uniform. During the exercise, 48 warships, half a hundred warplanes and more than 10,000 troops launched into the sea.
- It was the first major naval exhibition in the history of the communist-ruled country.
- Xi Jinping considered to be the most powerful leader after Mao Zedong, the founder of modern China. He hinted at his huge plans for the Chinese navy through that military exercise.
- On that day, he expressed his desire to build a navy that would reflect China’s “greatness.” And that force will show its power not only in the South China Sea, but in the seven oceans around the world.
- After Jinping’s instructions, the modernization and expansion of the Chinese navy began. Last Friday (June 18), China launched its third and most advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian, into the sea.
- Analysts say the latest naval warship is a shining example of how far the Chinese navy has come and how quickly it has arrived.
Not only that, but Beijing’s advances in military technology are now challenging the influence and prestige of their only rival, the United States.
The Chinese navy is currently the largest navy in the world. Which the United States itself has already acknowledged.
In November last year (2021), a report by the US Department of Defense said that in 2015, China had 255 warships.
By the end of 2020 that number stood at 360. In other words, two years ago, China had 70 more warships than the United States.
According to the report, the number of Chinese warships will increase to 420 by 2025. According to a US report, the size of China’s navy has tripled in just two decades.
China is already leading the world’s largest navy.
The Chinese navy currently has state-of-the-art submarines, aircraft carriers, warplanes, attacking amphibious warships, ballistic nuclear missile submarines, large coastguards and high-speed icebreakers.
Although lagging behind the United States in terms of the number of aircraft carriers, China is no less in terms of technical capabilities.
With the last warship Fujian, the total number of PLA warships is now three. In contrast, the United States has 11 aircraft carriers.
The first two aircraft carriers of the Chinese navy named Liaoning and Shandong. These designed in the former Soviet era.
Liaoning originally purchased in 1998 as a vessel from Ukraine. It then repaired and made usable. The two warships are still traversing the ocean in full force.
The two warships also used to train the new generation of naval personnel and pilots.
Although the first and second are of Russian technology, the third aircraft carrier is of its own technology.
In other words, China’s own military capabilities have incorporated into the design and construction of the Fujian aircraft carrier.
And the last warship will definitely increase China’s power in the field of naval warfare.
Fujian is really huge in shape. 316 meters or 1,038 feet long. Weight about 1 lakh tons.
Its flight system will further accelerate the takeoff time of the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMLS) fighter jet.
This will create a force that will enable warplanes to carry more fuel and weapons than ever before. EMALS makes it easier for fighter jets to take off and land.
The EMLS system allows more fighter jets to fly simultaneously.
And the speed of the planes flying in the sky will also be faster than the previous warships. Which will be able to ensure its own protection by preventing the attack of enemy warplanes.
This last feature of the aircraft carrier has made Fujian significant. This feature is in the latest Ford-class aircraft carrier in the United States.
France is also slowly trying to develop this system. And recently India has started exploring its feasibility.
However, the Chinese navy has not yet launch a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Which the United States done decades ago.
Fujian is currently power conventional energy systems. However, analysts believe that the next or fourth warship will nuclear powered.
Another medium of diplomacy
The Chinese navy aims to have six attack units with at least six aircraft carriers by 2035. This will bring China’s military power to a level never seen before in the country’s history.
The aircraft carrier will not operate alone. Instead, a whole fleet will formed around it.
And that fleet will ensure the safety of the mobile airport. At the same time, it will be able to destroy enemy targets in the oceans or in any territory hundreds of kilometers away by supplying massive ammunition.🔱
