Leclerc put in a stunning final qualifying lap to finish ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen yesterday, despite having not set a Q3 time at that stage due to an earlier spin. Anything less than perfection would have seen him miss out, and given that 21 out of 32 Spanish Grands Prix have been won from pole, it’s a massive achievement for a driver who is starting to look like a real champion.

Verstappen’s own qualifying session was hampered by yet another technical problem, as Red Bull’s reliability woes continued, but second keeps him in contention. However, Carlos Sainz in the second Ferrari starts third and will be hoping for a tow behind Leclerc to leap ahead of the Dutchman.

The other big talking point at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is the resurgence of Mercedes. They brought some big upgrades to Spain and on this evidence have finally tamed the porpoising issues they’ve faced all season. George Russell is fourth on the grid, with Lewis Hamilton in sixth, sandwiching the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez.

The race starts at 9 a.m. ET / 2 p.m. BST today and you won’t want to miss a second. So read on and we’ll show you how to watch the F1 Spanish Grand Prix live stream.
