Moscow is going to organize a fake referendum to join parts of eastern and southern Ukraine with Russia – an official of the Biden administration has given this information. Meanwhile, Russian officials fear that low voter turnout could undermine the entire referendum process. US officials have threatened to impose additional sanctions against Moscow and its puppet officials in the region in the event of a referendum. News TRT World.

On Friday, the US official said, “Our intelligence has revealed that referendums will be held in Kherson, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv.” The Russians are selecting candidates and administrators for these regions. The referendum could be held within the next week.

Citing intelligence, the official insisted Russian officials were concerned that there would be low voter turnout and a lack of legitimacy. Perhaps because of the loss and occupation of Ukraine, Russian officials fear local opposition.

The official said that Russian officials’ fears are absolutely correct. We fear that Russia will manipulate the results of this referendum and falsely claim that Ukrainians want to join Russia. Of course,

Referendum in Zaporizhia: Earlier this week, Moscow-backed authorities in the Zaporizhia region said they would hold a referendum on joining Russia. Yevgeny Balitsky, head of the Russian administration, said, “I signed a decree on the annexation of the Zaporizhia region to the Russian Federation.”

Since the first week of Moscow’s military operation in Ukraine in February of this year, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions have largely been under Russian control. Moscow is now trying to connect these two regions with Russia.

On the other hand, Luhansk and Donetsk were occupied by Russian separatists since 2014. However, Ukrainian forces continued to fight to rescue the two regions. Now Luhansk is completely under the control of pro-Russians. Russia is also fighting to get the whole of Donetsk.
