Nepal Police may also take the help of Interpol to arrest Lamichane

A court in Nepal has issued an arrest warrant against Sandeep Lamichhan on rape charges. A 17-year-old girl filed a case at the Guashala police circle office on charges of forced rape against Lamichan last Tuesday. After receiving the complaint of rape, Bharat Bahadur Bohora, Chief of Kathmandu District Police Range, said that they are taking this incident seriously. The police collected CCTV footage of the hotel that day for investigation.
Kathmandu district police spokesman Dinesh Mainali told news agency AFP, “The district court has issued an arrest warrant against Sandeep Lamichane for further investigation.” Lamichane, the captain of the Nepal national cricket team, is not in the country at the moment. He is currently in the Caribbean Islands playing in the Caribbean Premier League for Jamaica Tallawahs.

As he is not in Nepal, Nepal Police can also take the help of Interpol to catch Lamichane. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CN) held an emergency meeting on Wednesday evening after a case of rape was filed against the captain of the national team. However, they have not yet made any decision about Lamichane.

In the complaint filed with the police, the victim said that she was in contact with Lamichhan on WhatsApp and Snapchat as a fan. After the two became friends, Lamichane asked the girl to meet him. But the 17-year-old girl alleged that she was raped by Sandeep Lamichan while meeting.

He left Nepal on August 22 to play ODIs, T20Is and CPL against Kenya. The victim said the rape incident took place in Lamichhan just before leaving the country. In view of this complaint, no statement of Lamichan has been received yet.
