New Zealand whitewashed hosts Ireland in the three-match ODI series but lost two matches. Despite having a strong chance of winning the ODI series,

losing Ireland could not fight in the first T20I. Glen Phillips’ impeccable batting and Lockie Ferguson’s bowling led the Kiwis to advance in the three-match series.

New Zealand lost the toss and batted first to pile up a capital of 173 runs in the first of the three-match series in Belfast on Monday (July 18). Chasing the target, the hosts were bundled out for 142 runs. The visitors won by 31 runs.

Leg-spinner Dan Clever and spin all-rounder Michael Bracewell made their debuts for the Kiwis with the regulars rested. However, the visitors were in danger at the beginning when they came out to bat.

New Zealand lost three batsmen in the first five overs of the innings. Martin Guptill could not increase the innings despite starting well with the bat.

The opener left with a catch at long off after scoring 24 runs off 5 fours.

Besides, the anointed Dan Cleaver could score only 5 runs. Darryl Mitchell could not survive either. Phillips led the team from there.

The batsman strengthened the foundation of New Zealand by playing an innings of 69 runs from 52 balls.

In the end, Jimmy Neesham’s 16-ball 29 and Bracewell’s 21-run 13-ball innings made the visitors a capital of 173 runs in the stipulated over.

Even though Munsiana appeared with the bat in the ODI series, none of Ireland’s batsmen could benefit in the short format of cricket.

Paul Stalling, Andy Balberney were in the procession. Curtis Kampfer made a bit of an effort by scoring 29 runs off 21 balls. Pacer Lockie Ferguson took 4 wickets for New Zealand.🔱
