India’s Asia Cup campaign suffered a major setback as Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury. More bad news for India fans today. This all-rounder may not play in the T20 World Cup.
An official of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) gave the news to news agency PTI. The official told PTI, “Jadeja’s right knee injury is very serious. He may have to undergo a major surgery and be sidelined indefinitely.
This year’s T20 World Cup held in Australia will start on October 16. India will play their first match on October 23. The BCCI official said about the possibility of Jadeja playing in the World Cup, “Now the medical team of the National Cricket Academy will monitor him. When he will be able to return to international cricket, no one can say at the moment.
Jadeja is expected to be sidelined for at least three months. His knee problem is old. Because of this injury, he has focused more on making himself a batting all-rounder than bowling in the last one year.
However, Jadeja played well in the first two matches of the Asia Cup. In the first match against Pakistan, he did not get any wicket with 11 runs in 2 overs, but the all-rounder played a big role with the bat in which India won the match by 5 wickets with 2 balls in hand. Batting at number 4, Mohammad Nawaz scored 35 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed with two fours and a six.
Jadeja did not get a chance to bat in India’s second match of the tournament against Hong Kong. After losing the toss and batting, India lost only 2 wickets and scored 192 runs in that match. Jadeja took 1 wicket with 15 runs in 4 overs with the ball in the match winning by 40 runs.
India’s selectors have replaced Jadeja with another all-rounder Akshar Patel for the next matches of the Asia Cup. India is yet to field a World Cup team. Meanwhile, in the Asia Cup tomorrow, India’s first match in the Super Four is arch-rival Pakistan.
